International Campus Ministry

On December 6, 1992, a tragic fire claimed the lives of five international students and left 35 international students homeless. With God’s guiding hand, Our Savior coordinated the community’s efforts with tons of clothing and food, and over $10,000 in cash. This tragedy showed our members the need to be involved in International Ministry.

In 1993, Michael Paul, a member of Our Savior and a student at Concordia Seminary, served as our vicar and began to develop a Word and Sacrament ministry for international students. Rev. Alex Wu developed a close tie to the Chinese community on campus. During his pastorate, Our Savior began to offer a Chinese service as well as several easy and advanced Bible study programs.

Today, several International Ministry programs are active at Our Savior, including a weekly prayer group, a monthly group for international spouses, and an international English Bible Study on Saturday evenings. Between 40 and 60 Chinese students, faculty, and family members also worship on Sunday afternoons at our Chinese-language worship service.

Our Savior has welcomed students from countries including South and Central Africa, Germany, Brazil, China, Malaysia. Our congregation is a good place to practice English and to learn what Christianity is all about.
